Muskeg’s Story
It all started with Lloyd…
Lloyd is my heart dog. I got him in 2019, a few years after leaving my hometown. He reminds me so much of my childhood dog Milo; loyal, sweet and silly. Milo passed away in 2010, but his brown leather collar still sat on my nightstand after over 10 years, 10 moves and 3 provinces.
As Lloyd and I bonded throughout our first upland hunting season, I wanted to get him a quality custom leather collar with the shotgun shell from his very first pheasant flush. Something that would last his lifetime, showing evidence of every adventure we’d had together once he was gone. Just like Milo’s.
But I couldn’t find one to buy… All of the collars I could find were thin, poor quality bonded leather or had cheap, tacky hardware. So I decided to try and make my own.
After many trials, I found a pattern that worked. And I stand behind the quality of my collars.
Naturally I couldn’t just make collars forever…
My distain for poor quality bags was next on my hit list. Coated leather that peels, floppy and thin bags that make finding your chapstick feel like diving into a cave… I set out to bring high quality, hand crafted, functional leather bags into the lives of my loved ones, and now you too!
But why “Muskeg”?
There’s nothing as uniquely northern Canadian as Muskeg. When I’m not tinkering in my leather shop, I am tromping through the Northern Alberta Muskeg daydreaming about my next project. Well, and Lloyd. And now Harry too… yes I have a Harry as well.
Thank you for growing with me on my leatherwork journey, it’s incredible to share something I love with all of you.
